Joining Group 12 as a helper in Lourdes
All helpers are required to complete training prior to travelling. It involves two training weekends to prepare for the trip and getting to know the other group members.
All helpers are made aware of HCPT's and Group 12's safeguarding policies and require training to ensure sharing of this commitment.
Training
The group rely's on fundraising to pay for the kid's fares. All helpers are expected to help with fundraising. We do the majority of our fundraising as a group through events such as our masquerade ball and sport tournaments.
Helpers are asked to pay for their own fare. There are several grants available such as the Jack Petchy grant for younger helpers. HCPT can also help subsiding fares to those who need it - this is dependent on individual circumstances.
Fundraising and Fares
The week is action packed for helpers. Our priority as helpers is to give an enjoyable and safe holiday to the children. Helpers need to show good teamwork skills with other members of the group and put others before themselves throughout the week.
All helpers are expected to share the four core values and behaviours of HCPT:
-
Faith - welcome and respect all faiths and none
-
Compassion - we act with kindness and empathy
-
Inclusion - we recognise everyone's unique worth
-
Service - our holiday is based on giving
The Week in Lourdes
HCPT charities roots are with the Catholic faith. However all faiths and none are welcomed. You do not have to be a Christian to come with Group 12. If you are not Christian we do ask that you are respectful and join in when appropriate.
